Red Devil Vortex Releases “Psycho”

Los Angeles-based rockers Red Devil Vortex have released a new single called, “Psycho.” In an official statement from the band, Red Devil Vortex described “Psycho” as a “fictional story based on the dark side often present in toxic relationships.” Structurally, the song mirrors the psychological turmoil of a person stuck in a relationship that is dysfunctional and destructive. The song moves from quiet reflection to intense emotional outbursts of energy. The mix of alternative and hard rock genres has resulted in a unique and signature sound for Red Devil Vortex and is sure to please fans of Bad Wolves, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Ghost, and Rob Zombie.

The accompanying music video directed by Nate Ledger compliments the song with its raw visuals. With mascara running down her face, an emotionally distressed woman is shown screaming into a phone to her unseen lover. She then transforms into a half-naked succubus with blood dripping over her curvy body. She dances, taunts, and looks hungry for a new victim to devour.

“Psycho” is the latest single off the EP Dark Secrets. Red Devil Vortex co-wrote the song with the late producer Augustus Cryns who had previously worked with the band on their first EP Something Has to Die. The sudden death of their collaborator and friend Augustus Cryns during the recording of Dark Secrets was an unexpected hurdle that Red Devil Vortex had to get past to finish recording the album.

Dealing with obstacles has been characteristic of the band. Originally from Brazil, lead vocalist and bassist Gabriel Connor and drummer Iago Marcondes dealt with culture and shock in trying to assimilate into the LA music scene while living in an RV. They managed to succeed in their new home with the release of Something Has to Die which sold 1,200 copies in its first week. The EP charted #16 on the Heatseekers Chart and #49 Independent Albums Chart. Since then, Red Devi Vortex has managed to gather over 600k Spotify streams.

Eager to seize the momentum, the band went back into the studio to record Dark Secrets. This time however, the band would do so without their original guitarist Pablo Kraviticz. The combined forces of the pandemic and the death of Cryns put a hold the bands recording sessions. This resulted in Red Devil Vortex having more time to gel with their new guitarist Luis Kalil. The award winning guitarist has worked with legendary rockers Steve Vai, Corey Taylor, and  Kiko Loureiro & Dirk Verbeuren from Megadeth. With producer Adair Daufembach, the band was able to complete Dark Secrets. Red Devil Vortex is in fact not done in the studio as they have promised a new full-length album to be released in the second half of 2022.
