Story Of The Year Brings Their 20th Anniversary Of “Page Ave” To NYC
On a cold Sunday night in January, Story of the Year brought the energy and fire to a packed house in Time Square to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their seminal and platinum selling album, Page Ave. Along for the ride were emo/punk band Youth Fountain and darlings of emo nights everywhere, We The Kings.
Youth Fountain opened up the show, getting the crowd warmed up for everything to come with their blend of pop punk and emo. The trio, led by vocalist/guitarist Tyler Zanon, ripped through their set with such energy that got the crowd moving and amped for the following acts.
Up next was Florida five piece, We The Kings, who controlled the crowd like scene veterans should. They brought their infectious powerpop/emo/pop punk to Times Square, led by Travis Clark, who worked the crowd expertly and had everyone hanging on his next word. He had the “nine people in the crowd” who hadn’t heard of the band singing and dancing along to old favorites as well as a new song, which they were joined (virtually) by their friends in Mayday Parade for. Closing out with Check Yes, Juliet, they bridged the gap to the band which everyone was there for.
Story of the Year, who was celebrating the 20th anniversary of Page Ave. took the stage, ready to send everyone home with their money’s worth. Their set consisted mainly of tracks from their platinum selling debut album, as well as some from their newest album, one from their In the Wake of Determination, and an excellent medley consisting of songs from scene contemporaries Yellowcard, The Used, My Chemical Romance, and Taking Back Sunday that had every single soul in that room singing along with at the top of their lungs. Story of the Year played with such energy, that puts younger bands to shame. They were never still, jumping around and moving all over the stage. Catch them as they support the anniversary of this monumental album when they come to a city near you!
