Tales From The Pit: The Creative Control Tour

The Creative Control Tour was something I’ve needed for years and never realized it. Pierce The Veil has been one of my favorite bands since 7th grade and I’ve liked The Used since late elementary school. Getting to see the two of them for the very first time on the same tour was an experience I’ll never take for granted.

On June 16th Pierce The Veil and The Used brought The Creative Control Tour to UPMC Events Center in Moon, PA. The openers were Don Broco and Girlfriends, who both put on an amazing show and definitely gained a new fan. The venue is often used for basketball games, so Don Broco brought out a basketball and threw it into the crowd. The crowd then participated in a 2 minute long game of basketball with the lead singer.

The Used was the first of the two headliners to play and needless to say, as soon as the lights went out and the music between sets stopped, I was overflowing with excitement. Their stage presence was incredible, especially with all of the pink flowers across the entire stage. Bert McCracken (lead singer) made sure everyone in the room felt loved and knew he truly cared for every single person who took the time to be there. The whole band made everyone feel at home, making the experience even more memorable. Their set was filled with several fan favorites, “The Bird and the Worm”, “I’m a Fake”, and “The Taste of Ink”. They even brought the lead singer of Don Broco back out to perform “A Box of Sharp Objects” and part of Nirvana’s iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Their last song was introduced by one of my personal favorite Bert quotes of the night: “This song is about how pretty I am!”. That song was “Pretty Handsome Awkward”, which was the perfect way to end their incredible set.

Pierce The Veil closed out the show and to say I was emotional is an understatement. I had been waiting for this moment for years and now that the time had finally come, there was no way to hold back the several different emotions I was feeling. It definitely looked like I wasn’t the only one feeling this way due to the huge reaction from the crowd when they took the stage. Their whole set was a time when everyone in the room forgot their problems and were focused on the band and the family they have created. Just like The Used, the band made everyone feel loved and that they had a purpose. Pierce The Veil is one of the most entertaining bands I’ve ever seen due to the high amount of energy they have. Jaime Preciado (bassist) constantly runs across stage and interacts with everyone he can, Tony Perry (lead guitar) headbangs most of the set while also running across stage and occasionally swinging his guitar, and Vic Fuentes (lead singer/guitar) has some of the most beautiful vocals and interacts with everyone. During “Hold On Till May” Vic brought up one lucky fan who had the song sung to her and even got to keep his guitar. Every single lyric of every song was being screamed at the top of everyone’s lungs, especially during “Hold On Till May”, “Circles” and “King For A Day”.

This show was something truly special and I will be forever grateful I got to experience it. If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing either of them in concert, I highly recommend you do next time they’re in your area!
