Dubbing themselves a ‘Myspace band’ The Hostage Situation have reunited once again after 18 years for a good cause, the band has also reunited some old faces as well as bringing on some new blood to the stage. Along with their reunion, they have gifted fans an incendiary new track, ‘The Last Leg.’ Mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian (The Dillinger Escape Plan/The Sawtooth Grin), the chaotic single blends thrash punk drums with aggressive instrumentals and dynamic harsh vocals, delivering a volatile anthem of urgent rebellion.

"The last time we released music, it was on a MySpace player. Eighteen years later, no expectations means no disappointment.”

- says Brandon Kellum, lead vocalist of The Hostage Situation

Reflecting on the band's new single 'The Last Leg,' Kellum captures the zeitgeist:

"We’re living through chaotic times. Sometimes it feels like we’re chasing distraction as a way to ignore our inevitable oblivion.”

First up on stage is a newer local act, deathdotgov, local to the area the band has only been performing for a few years with two singles in their discography. Definitely check out this group if you’re a fan of Dance Gavin Dance or Eidola.

A Step Ahead took the stage next, friends littered the crowd and each raised a drink to their entrance cheering as they took the stage. For the past 15 years, this local band has connected through the waves of pop punk, metal core and many other genres to be a connecting link to all fans. Energy went up during their set as fans and friends sang along.

The main event was the return of The Hostage Situation, The Rebel Lounge filled with people whose eyes were sparkling with nostalgia as the band who lived fast and died young took the stage. ‘We’re still riding the high of last night.’ The band writes on Facebook, ‘Before we shift into recovery mode and then back into hibernation, we just wanted to say thank you. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. Everyone in attendance not only made it one for the ages but also did something truly special for a great cause. We appreciate you.’ Proceeds from the concert went to benefit Rosie’s House, a non-profit organization that provides free music education and hot meals to underprivileged youth.

My love for concert photography came from my scrolling on tumblr in my high school years, growing more after attending Warped Tour in 2012. Earning my associates degree in the arts from Cochise College in 2017, I started hunting for my next goal. I began my photojournalism journey in 2019 after working for my local newspaper taking shots of anyone and anything. I have a background of short documentaries, video interviewing and editorial shots. My friends tell me I have a plethora of band/music knowledge that I now hope to put to good use.
