The Mysterines Announce New Album 'Afraid of Tomorrows'
British alt-rock band The Mysterines have announced that their next album Afraid of Tomorrows will drop on June 7th, 2024. The new album to be released via Fiction Records is the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album Reeling. The Mysterines have already released the single, “Stray.” The song premiered on BBC Radio 1 and was hailed by presenter Clara Amfo’s as the Hottest Record.
“‘Stray’ focuses on the aimless and untamed nature of the polarities of behavior that we experience when dealing with suffering,” said vocalist and guitarist Lia Metcalfe. “Whether it’s guilt, paranoia, or unexplained feelings of grandiosity. Often when the hands of loneliness have a firm grip over one’s eyes it can turn dangers into open doors inviting you in. We find a certain point of no return and we’re often led astray.”
The Mysterines have also released a music video for “Stray.” Matilda Harding-Kemp directed the video. Metcalfe is paired with dancer and choreographer Joshua Hubbard. Together the two are locked in a dance that is both erotic and dangerous as they are entangled in red ribbons.
Grammy Award-winning producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen) recorded and produced Afraid of Tomorrows in Los Angeles. Afraid of Tomorrows boasts a deeper and darker sound than the previous Reeling.
“‘Afraid of Tomorrows’ is a mirror where you find you’re nothing more than a formless being, one made from celestial constellations — of traumas, of the old and new, mistakes, addiction, fear and happiness, loneliness, but ultimately a desire for life and the fight to keep living. It’s a collage of what’s been lost and of love unbounded,” said Metcalfe.
The Mysterines are set to tour the European summer festival circuit. Live at Leeds in the Park, 2000 Trees, Truck Festival and Tramlines are just some of the noteworthy festivals that The Mysterines will appear at. On July 7th, English rock band Bloc Party will celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band at Crystal Palace Park and The Mysterines will be their special guests to open the show.
