Third Man Announces Vault Pkg. #59: "Elvis Presley at 706 Union Ave: The Sun Singles 1954-55"

In celebration of the King of Rock and Roll’s debut, the legendary early recordings of Elvis Presley will be re-released in a gorgeous 59th Vault package via Third Man Records, in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment and the Sun Label Group. Elvis Presley at 706 Union Ave: The Sun Singles 1954-55 collects all five of Presley’s original 7-inch 45 rpm singles on Sun Records. The records are reproduced in yellow and black marble-colored vinyl. As a bonus, a 7-inch EP of four songs recorded by Presley for Sun Records early in his career but released later is included and comes in a picture sleeve and pressed on yellow and black vinyl with the Sun Ray logo splattered on the discs.

“If Elvis Presley had never made another record after his last Sun session in the fall of 1955, there seems little question that his music would have achieved much the same mythic status as Robert Johnson’s blues,” said noted music critic Peter Guralnick. “The body of his work at Sun is so transcendent, so fresh, and so original that even today you can scarcely listen to it in relation to anything but itself. Like all great art, its sources may be obvious, but its overall impact defies explanation.”

The collection comes with a few novelties. The box set includes two linen-style postcards, one which depicts the famed Sun Records storefront and the other showing in detail the sound-absorbing acoustic tile. A name-tag-styled patch that is inspired by the one worn by Presley when he drove a truck for Crown Electric before he attained stardom is also included. Lastly, a milled nickel 45 adaptor that features the famed Sun Records rooster rounds out the extras in the box set.
