Toxins Release “Brown Bag Special” + Announce Debut Album Existential Dread
On June 9th the San Diego hardcore/punk band Toxins will be releasing their first ever full length album “Existential Dread”. They get their influences from melodic hardcore and skate punk and turn them into catchy, fast paced absolute masterpieces on this 10 track album.\
The first single from the album, “Paper Bag Special”, was released on May 5th.
The band has been hard at work on the album since the tail end of 2021 going into spring of 2022. All of their previous releases have been comps and EPs, so they knew getting to the point of writing a full length album would be a challenge. To make sure they kept every song catchy, heavy, and unique they brought in Alex Capileh (engineer) to help put the album together and bring their ideas to life.
It wasn’t until all of the lyrics had been tracked for them to come up with the concept of the record. “Existential Dread” heavily focuses on the internal conflict and battles we all have within ourselves. The weight of the hardest challenges in life can be extremely overwhelming but can also all be made up in our heads. It’s all about how we cope and deal with these struggles.
It has only been just over a year since Toxins released their very first 7” lathe cut (it sold out within a few hours) and they have been extremely busy since then. After the self-titled release, they released a 4 song EP called “Recovery Room”. This release was also limited and sold out in 48 hours. In support of the release, the band played shows in San Diego, Arizona, and Los Angeles. They were also featured on No Echo, New Noise Magazine, Thoughts Words Action and many more.
In early 2022 they were asked to contribute 2 songs for an international split vinyl release for Coffin Curse Records. The two songs that were chosen were written in the midst of writing their first record. After they got a new bass player, they started tracking their LP with a renowned producer and engineer, Alex Capilé. With recording now being completed, Toxins is working on a full marketing blitz for “Existential Dread” and booking shows throughout the rest of the year. They are also trying to line up tour(s) around the album and there are plans on touring Brazil in either 2023 or 2024.
