Weimar Release Single, “The Girls of LA”
Post-punk group Weimar has been rocking the Manchester club scene with their music heavily influenced by various genres such as art-rock, cabaret, prog, goth, and jazz. The band proudly proclaims that their latest single “The Girls of LA” shows influence from Violent Femmes, Pylon, The B-52s, Wall of Voodoo, The Divine Comedy, The Velvet Underground, The Fall, The Buzzcocks, and Iggy Pop.
Weimar recorded “The Girls of LA” as a tribute to bottle service girls who work in the clubs of Los Angeles. Inspired by how these women work hard to collect tips to fund their career aspirations, Weimar wrote this song as a celebration of the women’s savvy business sense and career ambition. The song represents a British take on the mythical American Dream.
The positive message of “The Girls of LA” is in sharp contrast to much of Weimar’s discography. Weimar is more known for a darker and gloomier repertoire of songs. “The Girls of LA” shows clear 70s art-rock pretension, 80s new wave pop sensibility, and 90s college rock influences. “The Girls of LA” was produced by Adam Crossley and Chris Guest of Vibratone Sound Studio. Acclaimed artist Brian Gorman provides the cover art for the single. Frequent Weimar collaborator Nikos Pavlou directed the music video which features hot rising star, Ashley Marsh.
Weimar area group of very talented artists, all of whom have extensive experience playing in the Manchester music scene. Lead vocalist and guitarist Aiden Cross previously played with bands such as The Bacillus and Black Light Mutants. Drummer Anthony “Eddy” Edwards was formally of The Deceased. Guitarist Stephen Sarsen has been a member of the bands Frank is Dead and Playground. Bassist John Armstrong is keeping busy with The Speed of Sound who recently released the single, “Blood, Sweat, and Tears.”
“The Girls of LA” is released by German Shepard records and is available on digital platforms such as Apple and Spotify. The song will be part of the ''Dancing On A Volcano' LP, set to release on June 24th. You can order the album off Weimar’s own Marlene’s Hatimprint.
