Doc Hammer Release ‘Paradise’

Ask Doc Hammer what they are about, and they will tell you, “Doc Hammer likes to party. You like to party. Let's get together and make normal situations weird.” The San Diego punks have been playing hardcore party rock up and down the west coast since their explosive debut, the 2019 album Neon Devil. Their follow-up album, the 2021 EP Final Form featured the heavy-hitting single, “Firewalker” with its hilarious music video, highlighting the band’s irreverent sense of humor. Their latest EP is titled, Paradise, which is an appropriate title for a hardcore album by a band that enjoys wearing Aloha shirts as they rage out in the mosh pit. The album dropped on April 1st, but don’t be fooled. Doc Hammer takes their music seriously.

Fans of bands such as Every Time I Die, The Bronx, and Rocket For The Crypt will find much to enjoy in Paradise as Doc Hammer takes those influences and amps up the sound and fury while having the most fun a band can have. So much of hardcore music is angry and it’s refreshing to see a hardcore band not take themselves too seriously while simultaneously not holding back on the raw power of the music.

The opening track “Shut up, Richard” has guitarists Clay Word and Mike Mulé channeling NYHC bands as they play riffs reminiscent of the 80s crossover thrash style. The song “Starcrusher” combines the band’s usual hardcore with a classic rock and roll style that makes the song a real kickass anthem that will make you pump your fist in the air. Doc Hammer goes funky as well as heavy in the song, “13 Road Dawgz” courtesy of the excellent rhythm section provided by Phil Dupasquier’s bass and Aleksander D’Avignon’s drums. “It’ll Just Be A Couple Of Weeks” is a great song to play at the end of a long day when you want to yell “fuck you” to everyone that got in your face. Josh Ravin’s shrieking vocal style is perfectly paired with Doc Hammer’s music style and crude lyrical content.
