Drive-By Truckers to Release “American Band - Deluxe”
Known for their fiercely political rock anthems, Drive-By Truckers have long been a voice for progressive Southern rock. Their 2016 album, American Band, tackled issues ranging from gun violence to income inequality, and its themes remain strikingly relevant today.
Drive-By Truckers are celebrating the upcoming 2024 election with the release of a deluxe edition of their incendiary 2016 album, American Band, available digitally and as a 2xLP set via ATO Records on Friday, November 1. The deluxe release includes seven rare live tracks from their 2018 HeAthens Homecoming show at the iconic 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA, updated liner notes by band co-founder Patterson Hood, and exclusive new cover art from longtime visual collaborator, the late Wes Freed.
Fans can get a preview of this expanded edition with the release of the previously unreleased live track, "Ramon Casiano (Live at 40 Watt Club, Athens, GA, 2018)," now available for streaming on all major platforms.
The American Band deluxe edition also features a new live version of "Kinky Hypocrite" and extended performances of fan favorites like "What It Means" and "Ever South," with the latter incorporating a nod to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ classic "Southern Accents."
“We’re thrilled to finally reissue American Band with these live tracks,” says Patterson Hood. “These songs have taken on new life over the years, and we can’t wait for fans to hear how they’ve evolved. This album remains as relevant as ever.”
Drive-By Truckers continue their 2024 Southern Rock Opera Revisited Tour this fall, starting on October 16 in Washington, DC. The tour, which revisits their seminal 2001 album Southern Rock Opera, will include performances of songs from across their storied career. The tour will conclude with a special finale at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on November 24.
In addition, the band’s 2025 HeAthens Homecoming at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA is scheduled for February, with limited tickets remaining.
