Excision Makes a Stop in Arizona

After 1 year, 3 months, and 11 days I finally got to go to a show again. Before the pandemic hit I was easily going to at least 1 show a week and after so long it was like I had almost forgotten the rush of serotonin when that artist first steps on stage and the music starts playing.

On June 18th and June 19th Excision put on a show that woke the desert. This was the largest bass music event in Arizona history. I, unfortunately, had to show up late both nights due to work but I still had a great time. On Friday night I walked I got there halfway through Boogie T’s set and made my way through the crowd to find my sister and our friend. I made it just in time to hear him play Reminiscence which is one of my favorite songs, the graphics for that song were a rainbow marijuana leaf that was changing colors, and I swear that was the only time I really swelled weed throughout both of the nights. Another song he played right before his set ended was Nuclear Bass Face which is another one of my favorites and it is actually the song that made me start listening to Boogie T.

Next up was Riot Ten who played several fan favorites. Even if you do not listen to EDM there is no way that you do not know at least one of the songs that he played. One of the first songs of his set was a remix of System of A Down’s song Chop Suey which was amazing, my jaw literally dropped. Another song that he played that we all lost it to was the TikTok famous Griztronics he added in fake drops which are my favorite thing. To close out his set he played Rail Breaker and let me just say my neck was definitely sore after that one.

Lastly, before Excision took the stage Svdden Death got the crowd ready. This was his first official set back and it was also the last time that he was playing a lot of his older songs which he later tweeted about. During his set I got out of the crowd where I had been for the previous to and headed to the back to watch, one thing about a Svdden Death show is you know that there will be insane visuals. During Behemoth, I loved watching the crowd of over 10,000 people all dance and having a great time.

Headlining the weekend was the legendary Excision. Now if you have never been to an Excision show or do not know who he is this man runs over 700,000 watts of bass and lasers is practically his middle name. He boasts insane visuals and really knows how to put on a show after 15 years in the industry. While he does put on a very high-energy show for night 1 he played a few of his slower songs like Your Fault. Excision brought Sullivan King on stage two play Wake Up and a brand new song which has yet to be released named “Our Fire” for the very first time. I was not planning on going to night 2 but after his set I hopped online and bought my ticket.

For night number 2 I arrived during Wooli’s set which I managed to drag my sister and our friend into the middle of the crowd for. One thing about being in the crowd is that you make friends with everyone around you and meet super cool people which is something that I love about music. A friend of mine that I met around 5 years ago at a show actually met up with me during his set and we danced together in the crowd. My favorite Wooli song is Thicc Boi and for the intro, he cut the sound and you could just hear everyone in the crowd yelling “Damn boi he thicc!” right before the drop. He also played Another Me which is a collab that he has with Excision that is another one of my favorites.

Next up was my favorite performer of the weekend, Sullivan King who perfectly blends screamo and EDM. He debuted a brand new remix of Bring Me The Horizon and Yungblud’s song Obey which if you know me you that Bring Me The Horizon is the band that started my concert addiction so I had a blast during that song. He also played a remix of Alison Wonderland’s song Run. The last remix that I am going to touch on is Kayzo’s song Alone, if you have never heard the Sullivan King version that I urge you to check it out right now, it is such a fun song live. Halfway through his set, we had moved to the back and the second we heard him start playing Someone Else my sister and I locked eyes and I immediately darted back into the crowd. He remixed Shake The Ground and put in a lot of fun drops and teases that kept all of us entertained. Last week Sullivan King released his brand new album LOUD so make sure to go check that out!

Closing out the night once again and ending the weekend was Excision. Saturday night was packed and you could really tell during his set, the number of people had more than doubled with over 24,000 people in attendance this was definitely not a show to miss. With the amount of body heat coming off of the crowd, I was very glad to be in the back because even though it was night time Arizona does not cool off much so it was still in the upper 90s. He once again brought Sullivan King on stage, this time to perform fan-favorite Unbound. He also played his collab with the rock band, IPrevail called Feel Something which is a fun one live especially if you are also an IPrevail fan. I am very glad that I bought a ticket for Saturday because I had a great time and if any of these artists are coming to a city near you soon then you should definitely check them out!
