The L.I.F.E. Project Wants to Set the World on Fire

On Wednesday, June 16th, The L.I.F.E. Project released their third single and lyric music video for “A World On Fire” off their five-track self-titled EP set to be released on July 9th. This musical collaboration came together with the genius minds of the Grammy-nominated rock band Stone Sour’s guitarist Josh Rand and co-songwriter/vocalist Cassandra Carson. The EP is available for pre-order for CD, exclusive gold vinyl, and cassette tape editions. Each physical copy is hand signed and numbered in the Nuclear Blast store.

Speaking on their 3rd track released from the upcoming EP, Rand shares:

"When I started working on the music for "A World On Fire" the idea I envisioned was to take the listener to different places within the song. From the main guitar riff, to double time pre-choruses, to the soundscaping in the choruses. The hardest part when writing a song like that is to make sure it doesn't feel forced or choppy and all the parts are cohesive. I feel we achieved that."

Casandra adds:

"This song is one giant metaphor for wanting to permanently log off of social media. After watching a documentary about how addictive it is, and the negative impacts it has on mental health, I started realizing how much time, mental and emotional energy I was spending on it. Ever since then, I've started realizing I don't need the validation of getting likes and comments to measure my happiness or self-worth."

This single follows the previous singles, “Ignite” and the band’s debut release of “The Nothingness.” Both tracks were featured on a variety of major playlists across streaming platforms such as Rock Hard on Spotify, Breaking Metal on Apple Music, Break Through Rock on Amazon, Metal Radar on Deezer, and was included on SiriusXM Octane's Test Drive the same week it debuted.

The L.I.F.E. Project started as a concept that soon became a reality. Rand produced, recorded, arranged, and wrote the instrumentation in his home studio. This was then mixed by Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive). The final piece of completion came with the collaboration with Carson.

For Rand, this comes as an important milestone in his already decorative career over the course of the last two decades creating a new chapter in his artistic anthology. He made a name for himself with the band Stone Sour releasing six albums over twenty years. Mixed with Carson’s one-of-a-kind vocal lead, it added and complimented the music along with her lyrical pen.

Previously, Rand had done a two-year tour on the road with his band Stone Sour for their album Hydrograd and once he returned, he threw himself right back into craft with the clear intent of what to do next while exploring new sounds and new ground. Shortly after, following a series of events left him having to make some significant professional decisions. This in turn pushed Rand to go forward with his craft as a songwriter meanwhile planning for a fresh new project that he knew he wanted to bring to the hard rock and metal world. By a stroke of luck, that's when his world collided with Carson as he dived into the project; the current iteration holds true to his track record, without relying on his past efforts.

Stylistically, The L.I.F.E. Project is a fluid combination of classic metal sensibility and Rand’s penchant for pushing the boundaries of contemporary heavy music. From the ethereal, cinematic soundscape of the piano-latent ballad in "Worthwhile,” to the sonic sledgehammer of “A World On Fire,” the broad spectrum resonates as especially impressive. Between Rand’s instrumental framework, accentuated by Carson’s ability to articulate poignant stanzas, The L.I.F.E. Project remains a passion project culminating in perfect collaboration.
