Godsmack Announces New Album ‘Lighting Up the Sky’
Godsmack has announced the release of their newest album to drop on February 24, 2023, via BMG. The new recordings, titled Lighting Up the Sky, will be the eighth studio album from the GRAMMY-nominated band. Lighting Up the Sky follows Godsmack’s gold-certified 2018 album When Legends Rise, whose success was marked by the release of four back-to-back No. 1 singles.
Lead vocalist and guitarist Sully Erna co-produced Lighting Up the Sky alongside Andrew Murdock, whose previous producing credits include albums by Avenged Sevenfold and Alice Cooper.
Lighting Up the Sky deals with issues ranging from personal to political. Songs on the album include explorations into the dynamics of romantic relationships and the political polarization currently affecting the nation. The unifying theme in the album is the act of storytelling.
“I like when a record takes you on a journey from front to back. I realized there’s a whole story here about one man’s journey, the ups and downs,” says Erna. “I believe it’s a story everyone will connect to, on a human level, because we’ve all gone through things in life.”
Another concept explored in Lighting Up the Sky is that of legacy. This is particularly important to Erna, who stated that Lighting Up the Sky will be the final studio album from Godsmack.
