Karina Rykman Releases “Joyride” + Announces Debut Album
The singer/songwriter/bassist Karina Rykman has released “Joyride”, the first single from her debut album JOYRIDE, which will be released August 18th. The album is full of thick bass, ethereal synths, disco-funk guitar, and inviting vocals. It also features lead guitar by co-producer Trey Anastasio and captures Rykman’s ability to combine genres and create her own original take on psychedelic indie rock. Preorders for the album are available here.
Born and raised in New York City, Rykman’s musical path began when she was in her teens playing in bands and attending several concerts. Her power on the bass landed her a number of high profile television gigs spanning from America’s Got Talent to backing up pop star Julia Michaels on TODAY. By the end of her senior year at NYU, her talent and infectious spirit invited her to join pianist Marco Benevento’s band (recommended by Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz). With him she has performed countless shows including dates with Vulfpeck, Dispatch, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Guster, and many more.
She soon formed her own band with Adam November (guitar/loopers/effects) and Chris Corsico (drums). She then quickly gained the reputation of being a must see live act due to the way she lights up the stage with international headline sets, show-stealing festival performances (Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, and Sweetwater 420 Fest), shows alongside The Disco Biscuits and other big names, and recent appearances on 8G Band on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.
The same spellbinding power was captured on a series of independent singles, “Elevator” and the million streaming “Plants”. Both singles have been enhanced for Rykman’s upcoming album JOYRIDE. The album was written and recorded with her childhood friend, Gabe Monro, and serves as a vivid canvas of her beautiful expression and songcraft. The album features Trey Anastasio as a co-producer and musician where he is a guitarist in five out of nine songs. Both artists performed at Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA, which is how the collaboration began. Anastasio took interest in Ryman’s debut album and offered the use of his Vermont studio to work with the renowned mixer, Bryce Goggin.
