Night Talks Release Bright New Song and Video “Roll On”

The LA based indie rock/pop trio have shared their bouncy, bright track and video for “Roll On”. The track takes an energetic and dynamic look at isolation to find pieces of hope and amusement.

Behind the irresistible rhythm and glittering guitar, “Roll On” perfectly captures the chaos that ripped through the world in 2020. The subject contrasted by the glittering beat finds slivers of eagerness that linger and leave a lasting impression. The track was written in the height of COVID-19, filling the song with emotion. Despite the hard times, the band continued to power through fear and uncertainty, which is what brought this track to life.

It was a really tough time to be an independent musician with no real infrastructure, especially when looking at other, more successful acts, who were still able to release albums and play on late-night television. The only thing we could do was work on writing songs and other small projects, and that’s exactly what this song came out of. We wanted to capture the feeling of what it literally feels like to be stuck inside your apartment, unable to do much of anything.
— Soraya Sebghati (frontwoman)

The Twilight Zone-esche music video was directed by Julianne Foxx. The video sees Sebghati trapped in a vintage, unsettling house where mystery quickly creeps in. Instead of creating a video on the dullness of isolation, they chose to create an eye-catching video.

We wanted to craft a vintage, liminal environment for Soraya’s character to run around in, and we had a lot of fun playing with the mysteriously ominous elements of the setting.”

Our goal was to cram as much color and energy as possible into the smallest, dustiest space we could find.
— Jacob Butler (guitar/synth/vocals)

The video is inspired by one of Butler’s favorite movies, Evil Dead II, which is why it playfully messes with Sebghati. He also acknowledged the absence of the rest of the band and any confusion this would cause for fans.

‘Why is there a portrait of us on the wall though?” “Whose house is this?” “Is this really happening?’ He continues, “I feel when you only have people for three minutes, you might as well surprise them a bit. Blast ‘em with color and guitar and let them go on with their day asking themselves, ‘What just happened?’

Night Talks was formed in 2014 in Los Angeles by three life-long best friends: Soraya Sebghati (vocals), Jacob Butler (guitar/synth/vocals) and Josh Arteaga (bass/synth/vocals). They’ve played music together since 2010, but Night Talks didn’t come to be until 2014. Their music is a callback to the anthemic indie rock of the early 10s, but with a more current sound with synthesizers and layered background vocals. Their live shows are full of energy, thanks to the help of a drummer and Soraya’s onstage cardio.

In February of 2017, they released their first album, In Dreams. The release was accompanied by a sold out show at The Echo. The lead single from the record, “Green”, was played on KROQ’s Locals Only and hit #1. Their second album Same Time Tomorrow was set to release in March of 2020, but had to be pushed back due to the pandemic. During that hard time, the band got creative and got a hold of a camera and new skills. They made a music video for all 10 songs on the record and by August 2021 they were finally able to release the first single from the album “Overcome” with a private release party.

Bouncy, light and with plenty of dream pop synth to open with, the tune is an upbeat downer, with a catchy as hell melody and heartbreaking lyrics not about lost love, but friendships grown apart. Led by the magnetizing and sonorous vocals of Soraya Sebghati alongside guitarists Jacob Butler and Josh Arteaga, Night Talks have a penchant for creating joyous rock anthems.

In January of 2022 they released “On and On” with a music video to accompany it. The track was #1 on KROQ’s Locals Only for 2022. Same Time Tomorrow was finally released on February 23, 2022 with a sold out headline tour to celebrate. For the remainder of the year, the band released one music video a month to keep the momentum going. In November of 2022, they had the privilege of having a Monday Night Residency at The Echo/Echoplex, which is a big honor in Los Angeles.

Night Talks are currently in the works of recording new music, so be on the lookout for announcements from them!
