No Captains Release New Album ‘Friends Like These’

Hailing from San Francisco, funk metal band No Captains has been electrifying the Bay Area club scene and beyond with their highly energetic performances. One of the few heavy, hard-hitting bands that encourages their audiences to dance and not just bang their heads, No Captains makes every show a true party experience. Audience participation is appreciated, and the group leads chants and singalongs making a typical show a more inclusive experience for their fans.

Fans of Mike Patton’s work may enjoy No Captains as the group has clear influences from both Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. Foregoing a guitarist, the band’s sole instrumentalists are Danny Sando on bass and Vince Shore on drums. The rhythm-heavy band is reminiscent of groups like Primus and Red Hot Chili Peppers. No Captains knows how to get heavy too as they cite Tool and Rage Against the Machine as influences as well.

These influences can be heard in the band’s fourth album titled Friends Like These released earlier this month. This album is made of twelve groove-oriented tracks that are filled with both power and melody. The full tracklisting is as follows:
1. Looking Glass (Ft. Lester Raww)
2. Never Been Named
3.  Donut Theory
4. Maze (Ft. B.Z. Lewis)
5. Throne (Ft. Derek Kerby)
6. Wrinkle in Slime (Ft. Anthony)
7. River Run (Ft. Lester Raww)
8. Quit Your Job (Ft. C.L. Berheren)
9. Sirens (Ft. Morty Lopez)
10. 2 Left Feet
11. 13th Moon (Ft. Emily Palen)
12. The Tide (Ft. Marc Beullomini)

The first single off Friends Like These was the song “13th Moon” which premiered last month. Featuring Emily Palen from the group KnightressM1, an experimental band that combines classical music and dark rock. Palen provided an eerie violin performance on the track which was inspired by the monsters of classic horror cinema and the creepy fact that 2020 saw 13 full moons.

The latest single from No Captains is “2 Left Feet.” This time the inspiration is more real world. Influenced by the awkwardness of adolescence, “2 Left Feet” tells a story that should be familiar to many people who felt like they never fit in growing up.

"This song '2 Left Feet' is my recollection of what it was like in high school,” said lead vocalist Alex Shonkoff. “Bullied, insecure, lost... I wonder if anyone can relate to that?? I hope anyone who hears this remembers something very important. You've come a long way, baby. You are worthy. You are loved. And no one is perfect."
