Steel Panther Feel the Steel 15th Anniversary Tour Kicked Off in Long Island

Kicking off the “Feel the Steel 15th Anniversary tour” comedic glam metal icons Steel Panther took Huntington, NY into a bathroom stall, showed it a great time, and then finished in a blaze of glory.  Which is a pretty good analogy for the show on Wednesday 11/20/24.

Steel Panther is a glam rock band from California, that parodies an 80’s glam rock band in a very hard rocking, profanity filled experience definitely not for the whole family (unless you’re over 18, and they’d want to know if the girls are).

For those who haven’t heard of Steel Panther, or came to the show unknowing what they are getting themselves into, they were given a funny, swear filled, beyond raunchy, but hard rocking time. And if you were offended, they made sure to remind you over and over “f*** you”.

The pace of the show was something I never really experienced before. It was like,  a quarter comedy show, three quarters glam metal show. They would have 2-3 songs, then a very long winded comedy bit, into a few more songs, then another bit, and you get the picture.

Although funny, my personal opinion was that the comedy bits lasted just a bit too long. But they were funny, got audience members involved, and overall everyone had a good time, so that tells me nothing is wrong with that.

Not to spoil the bits because you should go and see the show yourself- I’ll say the ones that seemed to be specific to my particular show.

They brought a girl named Gianna on stage, her birthday was the next day. I assume they met during the meet and greet beforehand or something. There was definitely prior knowledge involved. The bit was, the whole band did impromptu songs serenading her trying to seduce her. Each band member at a time.

They invited a whole bunch of women in the crowd on stage for “17 girls in a row”, and in typical Long Island fashion, there was maybe 7 under the age of 40. Which added a very extra layer to the humor.

A man in a banana costume was brought on stage during the encore and he very funnily unpeeled himself.

Like I said- I don’t want to give away all the bits. That would ruin the show for you, but the fun thing about Steel Panther and having a comedy background, is the improvisational comedy is going to make every single show unique and it’ll be a different experience every time you see them. But also- they are really good musicians and performers too.

Satchel, the guitar player, was a standout in particular. He did a long guitar solo with bits from “Smoke on the Water”, “Breaking the Law”, “Master of Puppets”, “Sweet Child O’Mine”, “Iron Man”, “The Trooper” and more while also playing drums at the same time. Mostly the kick drum. Sometimes with bands that do comedy, you tend to forget how actually talented they are.

Speaking of talented musicians, opening for Steel Panther was the hard hitting, classic sounding Baltimore native rock band, Stone Horses.

Overall Stone Horses brought good energy and a nice, solid old school feeling rock sound. According to the lead singer, John Allen, Stone Horses haven’t ventured out to Long Island in 10 years since they opened for Ace Frehley.

The crowd was pretty small when the set started but Stone Horses’ sound and energy pulled the people into the pit, it was double the size by the time the set wrapped. We love that.

If you have an opportunity to see both these bands on tour, I would definitely recommend it. Enjoy the music, have a nice drink, and have nothin’ but a good time.
