elbow Releases "The Seldom Seen Kid" And Announce New Album

On October 1st, elbow released a new track, “The Seldom Seen Kid”, coming from their upcoming album Flying Dream 1 which you can pre-order here. The new album is set to release on November 19th. “The Seldom Seen Kid” shares a title with elbow’s triple-platinum and Mercury Prize-winning album, with a shared meaning - it is a tribute to the band’s late friend and musician, Bryan Glancy.  Lead vocalist and guitarist Guy Garvey reflect on the moment that his wife met Glancy, a specific moment beautifully immortalized in this track.

The song begins with slow drumming and progresses into a woodwind arrangement with lovely dissonant chords. “The Seldom Seen Kid” feels nostalgic and haunting, almost an ache as you listen to it and reflect on fond memories. Garvey’s voice, along with the simple yet powerful lyrics, allows the song to soar to great heights - his voice carries well above the music, marked with purity and control. As the song progresses, guitar and piano are added in as well. A march through memories, “The Seldom Seen Kid” is a beautiful way to introduce elbow’s new album.

After eight studio albums already released and great success, there is no doubt that elbow will continue to grow, and there is no doubt that Flying Dream 1 will be a powerfully stunning album.
