Kitty Junk Release Debut Album ‘Converse Theory’

On October 28th, Seattle “junk-punk” duo Kitty Junk released their debut album, Converse Theory, becoming the pioneers of the junk-punk/junk-rock subgenres. Hard-rock and grunge inspired, fueled by feminism and glam, Kitty Junk’s sound is unique and full of grit. The duo of Angela Dane and Ryan Lee are taking the punk rock scene by storm.

The release of Converse Theory was preceded by the release of four singles. The title track, “Converse Theory”, is a perfect introduction to the album and the sound of junk-punk - it’s gritty and low, with a driving rhythm carrying the song. “Head Rush” is the second single released and the second song on the album, an echoing and haunting tune with impressive vocals. “Kitty Club” is a high-energy headbanger, and “So Pretty” is fast-paced and an energy builder - a perfect final single before the release of the entire debut album. And, outside of these four singles, Converse Theory continues to be a show stopper. “Envy” and “Rage” are perfect to scream along to; it’s to be expected of a subgenre titled “junk-punk”.

Outside of Kitty Junk, Dane and Lee run a nonprofit organization, Womxn and Audio, as a way to create gender-inclusive classes and spaces for those aspiring to be audio engineers. Their work, music, and experience all have inspired them to make heavy music scenes more inclusive of women, gender-diverse individuals, and people of color.
